Tips for completing The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - Thieves Guild Quests #001
The missions that the Thieves Guild gives you obviously require high Sneak and Security abilities. In most of them, you should avoid combat, as any unnecessary losses will result in gold penalties for the guild itself. In addition to completing mission after mission, you also need to "collect" a certain amount of money to get new special tasks. You collect money by stealing goods and selling them to a special guild member known as the "huckster." This is the only way to make money from stolen goods in Oblivion. See the quest "Independent Theft" for details.
In search of the Thieves' Guild
After spending some time in Cyrodiil, you will surely notice Wanted posters in all major cities pointing to the mysterious thief Grey Fox. He's supposed to be the leader of the thieves' guild. You will hear rumors that beggars are his eyes and ears. Ask one of them a question (at least 2 of them in each city) and raise his Order. You will know that to join the Guild, you must be in the Garden of Daleroth on the waterfront of the Imperial City at exactly midnight. When you're there (there's a marker for you), you'll meet Armand Christophe along with two other guild impersonators.
TIP: Arman will not talk to you "about business" at any other time or anywhere, every time you want to report it after completing a quest, you will have to wait until midnight and go to the Garden of Daleroth.
Hint: A shorter way to find the Thieves Guild is to let the city Guards arrest you. After you spend some time in prison, a guild envoy will come to you and tell you about the meeting place.
May the best thief win
Your first task is to fight two other candidates to find a man named Amenti Allectus and steal his diary. Ask any beggar in the city about Amentius, and you'll find out that he lives in the Temple District. You will find his house after the map marker. Break down the door and steal the diary from the house - a piece of cake. Armand will be pleased with your performance and will be happy to make you a member of the guild.
Independent theft
This mission accompanies you throughout your career as a cooperative Guild fighter. In short, it's all about stealing and selling what you steal. The higher your rank, the more you will be allowed to contact togoshami. They all have a very high Trading capacity, so deal with the fact that you probably won't make any profitable deals with them. After each quest, you are informed how much money you need to collect before the next one becomes available.
Stolen goods are marked with a red arrow in your inventory. You can't sell them in regular stores. Where did you get them? Well, you steal, of course. Steal from the homes and pockets of all kinds of NPCs in Cyrodiil. Stealth and security are a must here.
